macOS Big Sur “Bricking” Some Old Macs

Reports came in over the weekend about a nasty problem caused by installing the new release of macOS Big Sur. If you have a 2013 / 2014 MacBook Pro, it’s best to wait for Apple to release a fix before you attempt to install the update.

If you’ve already installed the update

Although you may not be able to boot the laptop, and all startup keys will fail to get it going, we will still be able to recover your data from MacBooks effected by this problem.

You need to proceed very carefully, as some online advice suggests erasing the Mac which means you’ll lose all your data!
