The sales boom in iPods and other handheld digital media players has generated a digital music culture. It is this generation that has seen a relaxed approach to the necessity for backing up such devices. We are seeing an increased demand for data recovery of music, photos, videos and general data from these devices. The request for data recovery can range from a personal music collection to important business documents.
We recover data from many RAID configurations. A RAID is a volume consisting of two or more physical disks. Most RAID configurations are created using specific hardware although can be software based at a BIOS or system level. A low cost RAID 0 configuration has no fault tolerance and is used mainly for speed and storage capacity. The LaCie Big Disk is a prime example. A more expensive, fault tolerant RAID 5 configuration consists of five disks or more and is mainly used for servers.
This form of media appears to be less popular for backup due to the reduced cost and high capacity of external hard drives. Formats include UDF, CDFS, ISO 9660, Hybrid, FAT, NTFS, HFS and HFS+. Common problems with optical media include scratches, media corruption, badly written and reformatted disks.
