iPods Supported.

iPod 1G and 2G1G & 2G iPods, are identified by a mechanical scroll wheel on the front. These iPods are the originals and are becoming quite rare. First released in 2001 they come in 5GB, 10GB and 20GB capacities.

iPod 3G3G iPods, have a non-moving touch sensitive wheel on the front, as well as four touch sensitive buttons. Released in 2003 they come in 10GB, 15GB, 20GB, 30GB and 40GB capacities.

iPod 4G4G iPods, were the first full size iPods to feature the new touch sensitive "Click Wheel". This click wheel also incorporated four buttons instead of the separate buttons on the 3G iPod. These iPods were available in 2004 in 20GB and 40GB capacities.

iPod PhotoThe iPod Photo was a progression from the 4G iPod. They look the same but feature a colour screen with the ability to view iPhoto libraries whilst on the move. To accommodate this extra feature they increased the storage capacity to 60GB. They were released soon after the original 4G iPod in late 2004.

iPod 5G5G iPods were the first full sized iPods available in a colour other than white. Coming in black or white they feature a larger color screen than the previous iPods and are slimmer in profile. First released in 2005 they were originally available in 40GB and 60GB capacities but later received an upgrade to 80GB.

iPod classiciPod Classic is the natural successor to the 5G iPod. It looks very similar but has a slightly rounded front. These iPods are available in 80GB and 160GB capacities and have been available since 2007.

iPod TouchiPod Touch is a radical departure from the look and feel of a traditional iPod. With no wheel and just a large touch sensitive screen, this iPod takes it's visual style from the iPhone. In a seeming step backwards, the iPod Touch is available in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities. The reason for this step down in capacity is that it uses solid state storage instead of a hard disk drive. This makes the unit more robust and less prone to shock damage however the cost of solid state storage does come at a premium at the moment.
